Every year around this time, we talk about gratitude — often like it’s another item on the holiday checklist.
Be thankful.
Write three things.
Find the silver lining.
But the gratitude I’ve witnessed in nurses, caregivers, and everyday human beings doesn’t come from lists or practices.
It comes from something deeper.
It rises from the quiet place inside us where insight lives.
The place Sydney Banks called Mind.
The place Einstein hinted at when he said:
“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant.”
This year, I want to invite you to look in the direction of that gift again —
not the practice of gratitude, but the source of it.
The Invisible Operating System Behind Gratitude
We live inside an Invisible Operating System — a built-in source of wisdom, peace, and clarity that’s always running beneath the surface.
You’ve touched it thousands of times:
- That instant where you suddenly feel grateful just to breathe.
- The way your heart softens when you see someone you love.
- The warm presence that appears when you stop rushing long enough to notice life again.
You didn’t manufacture those moments.
They rose when your personal thinking quieted.
Gratitude comes from the same place insight comes from.
It is the natural glow of Universal Mind shining through us.
A Simple Equation M = mc(∞²)
This little equation is simply an easy way to show how the inside-out nature of life works.

It’s a metaphor — M = mc(∞²) — not something to analyze, but a gentle pointer toward the Invisible Operating System behind all human experience.
It gives a form to something formless… a way to glimpse what’s true before any of our personal thinking begins.
Here’s what each part points to:
M = Universal Mind
The formless, infinite intelligence behind all life — the source of insight, peace, and the deeper feeling of gratitude.
m = Personal Thought
The meaning we add to life moment to moment — temporary, ever-changing, never who we truly are.
c = Consciousness
The gift of awareness that makes our experience feel real from the inside.
∞² = Universal Thought
The limitless creative potential behind all experience — the power that makes perception possible.
I share this equation because it helps make the unseen visible.
It points to the simple truth that every feeling — including gratitude — comes from within, created through Mind, Consciousness, and Thought in each moment.
Gratitude isn’t something you do, its a feeling.
It’s what naturally rises when personal thought settles and our deeper intelligence shines through.
Gratitude is not a technique.
It’s a remembering.
When the Servant Gets Loud, the Gift Gets Quiet
Pause for a moment.
Take one gentle breath.
Let your mind settle — just a little.
Then notice:
- What softens when your thinking quiets, even briefly?
- What do you feel when you look underneath the thoughts swirling on the surface?
Einstein warned us that society has learned to honor the servant — the rational mind — and forget the gift.
In healthcare, we see this everywhere:
- Overthinking replacing insight
- Protocols replacing presence
- Busyness replacing clarity
- Burnout replacing wisdom
And yet…
The moment a nurse reconnects with the gift — that deeper knowing — the whole room shifts.
Patients feel it.
Families feel it.
We feel it.
Our state of mind becomes the intervention.
Gratitude blooms naturally again, because it was never lost — only invisible.
A Thanksgiving Reflection for You
Sometimes it’s calm.
Sometimes warmth.
Sometimes just a little more ease.
Whatever shows up…
That’s the gift.
That’s where real gratitude lives.
