Creating a Life Worth Living: Holistic Nursing & Career Fulfillment

Creating a life worth living ✧

I came home from Costa Rica with a suitcase full of ideas.

But what stayed with me most wasn’t a business strategy or a new coaching model.

I was watching how people were living.

Of course, we talked about healthcare, entrepreneurship, wellness, and the future. Everyone had meaningful work they wanted to bring into the world.

But what stayed with me were the conversations in between.

The ones about family.

Friendships.

Walking to dinner together.

Building communities where people gather simply because they enjoy being together.

And as I settled back into my everyday routine, those moments kept resurfacing, gently nudging me to look more closely at my own life.

It made me stop and ask myself a question I hadn’t really sat with in a long time.

What kind of life am I actually creating?

I’ve spent more than thirty years building a nursing career I’m incredibly proud of.

But if I’m honest, I haven’t always been as intentional about building my life.

Like a lot of nurses, I felt like I had to choose.

Work or my kids.

Work or holidays.

Work or that once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Work or just having space to breathe.

At the time, it just felt like what you do.

Patients needed me.

My coworkers needed me.

There was always one more shift to cover.

And somewhere along the way, I started missing parts of my own life.

Looking back now, I can see how easy it is to slip into that pattern without even realizing it.

Maybe you’ve felt that too.

We tell ourselves we’ll slow down later.

We’ll travel when things settle down.

We’ll spend more time with friends after this project, or for one more year.

But life doesn’t wait.

It’s happening right now.

And that realization has shifted how I think about what it really means to be well.

The older I get, the more I see that health isn’t about checking boxes.

It shows up in long conversations around a dinner table.

In laughing until you can’t catch your breath.

In work that actually feels like you.

In quiet mornings.

In feeling connected to people you love.

In knowing your life matters—not because of everything you’ve done, but because of who you’re becoming.

For so long, we’ve been taught to do more.

Work harder.

Achieve more.

Produce more.

But even people who seem to have everything end up asking the same question.

Is this really the life I wanted?

That question is what bridges the gap between success on paper and fulfillment in real life.

I’ve come to see there’s a difference between making a living and creating a life.

One fills your calendar.

The other fills you up.

That’s what I saw in Costa Rica.

People weren’t trying to escape their lives.

They were building them on purpose.

Businesses that matched what mattered to them.

Communities where people felt like they belonged.

Experiences that brought people together.

Seeing that so clearly made me realize this isn’t something distant or unattainable—it’s something we can choose, little by little.

It reminded me of something we already know.

We’re not meant to do this alone.

We do better when we’re connected.

As nurse coaches, we see this all the time.

People come to us carrying stress, uncertainty, grief, or feeling overwhelmed.

But underneath all of that, there’s always something else there too.

Strength.

Hope.

Wisdom.

That ability to find their way back to what really matters.

And witnessing that in others often becomes the mirror we need for ourselves.

Maybe that’s the invitation for all of us.

Not to keep putting our lives on hold.

Not to wait until everything is perfectly lined up.

But to start living now.

To love the people in front of us.

To give what we can.

To be intentional about how we spend our time.

To actually enjoy being here.

And maybe the best part is…

We don’t have to figure it all out on our own.

We get to do it together.

Continue the Journey ✧

As I reflected on everything I experienced in Costa Rica, I realized those conversations are at the heart of why we created our new Holistic Nurse Program.

Many of us entered nursing because we wanted to make a difference. Along the way, it’s easy to become so focused on caring for others that we lose sight of ourselves.

Our Holistic Nurse Program is an invitation to reconnect with yourself, your purpose, and a deeper understanding of whole-person care from the inside out.

Whether you’re looking to enrich your practice, prepare for board certification, explore new career opportunities, or simply rediscover the joy that first called you to nursing, you’ll find a supportive community ready to walk alongside you.

Because becoming a better nurse isn’t just about learning new skills. It’s about becoming more fully yourself. If this month’s article spoke to you, perhaps this is your next step.

A Quiet Paradox for Nurses Who Care Too Much ✧

If you are a nurse who falls into bed every night feeling completely exhausted and just surviving, we want to tell you something important: You are not broken.

You didn’t enter this profession to move at a frantic, disconnected pace. You became a nurse because you wanted to matter in a real, human way.

Standard burnout advice tells you to set boundaries, practice self-care, or download an app. But that advice implies your peace is entirely at the mercy of a broken system.

We just released a brand-new, 5-page guide called “The Nursing Paradox: Why Nurses Who Care the Most Are Struggling and What Nobody Is Telling You.”

It introduces a quiet, steady shift in how your day-to-day experience is actually created—from the inside out. It reveals how you can return to genuine presence and purpose right now, without waiting for your environment to change.
